William Golding was a British writer known for his famous novel, Lord of the Flies. William Golding was born on September 19th, 1911 in Cornwall, England. He was a teacher of English and Philosophy in Salisbury. He joined the British Royal Navy in 1940. His first novel was Lord of the Flies, which was published in 1954. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983. Golding was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1988. William Golding died on June 19th, 1993 in Cornwall, England.
